Brian Caldwell CV Summary:

USCG STCW-95 / 50-ton Licensed Captain
US rep for ‘Nautilus Yacht Management’ Australia
Captain CGG Veritas Geo-Seismic research vessel “Polaris-4” / Arctic Circle (summer months/during CGG contracts)

BJ is the son of Brian Sr and Jan Caldwell. The family sailed the South Pacific six years from 1985 to 1991, cruising French Polynesia, Cooks, Tonga, Fiji and New Caledonia. Brian’s grandfather (Joseph Crabtree) was a US Marine officer in World War 2, and was 100% Cherokee, Native American – making BJ 25%.

BJ did home schooling aboard his parents yacht “Foxy Lady 2” from ages 9-15 in the South Pacific. After finishing high school in Hawaii, BJ set the world record as the ‘Youngest Solo Circumnavigator’ and the ‘1st-Under-21’ solo around the world in 1996!

BJ then won the Sydney Hobart race as the youngest team with current Volvo Ocean race ‘Team SCA’ crew Australian Liz Wardley, while delivering yachts all over the world to a make a living.

Lately, BJ has skipperd a geo-seismic jet boat for his French employer – ‘CGG Veritas’ in the Arctic Circle during summer months while also working with Australia’s ‘Nautilus Yacht Management’ as their US rep…

…Meanwhile Brian often sails with his friend mentor Jon Sanders who was the first to double circumnavigate the world nonstop solo aboard his S&S 34 ‘Perie Banou’ in the ’80’s and set multiple world records in the process. He then broke his own record just two years later by completing a triple unassisted nonstop solo circumnavigation that spanned 71,023-nautical miles and 22-months at sea…!

Brian co-skippered with Jon on yacht deliveries and races such as the Rolex Sydney Hobart and Cape Town to Rio races. This past year they sailed the Fremantle to Bali race together before delivering the 49ft race boat ‘Optimus Prime’ from Japan to Australia!
