Maimitivavau survives to sail again!

“Maimitivavau” my ex-girlfriend – the Contessa 26 I set the world record as the youngest solo circumnavigator aboard in 1995-’96 sank in cyclone Yasi in Australia about the same time my current Albin Vega 27 “ISIS” survived the Queensland floods in Bundaberg, Australia – with just one scratch in the paint.  This was after she’d almost finished on top of the two story Mid-Town Marina office building if you look back at my previous blog entry about the tragedy…

James Finan – my mate who crewed for me on many yacht deliveries and whom I raced from Vanuatu to New Caledonia last year (against my old boat) lost her after he left her on a mooring in Airlie Beach for several months while he worked with a good new charter job in Egypt of all places…and northeastern Australia was struck by one of the biggest cyclones in a decade…

The good news is that “Maimitivavau” will sail again!  She was pulled out of the water and she is looking for a loving new owner to set a new youngest record aboard or to continue cruising the world for the years to come…all she needs is little TLC ; – )
